Artful Journal Journey Begins with the Kids CLass

I can hardly believe my second workshop is about over. The kids have been hard at work and playing hard. Just like an athlete we warm up with Blind and Modified contour line drawings. This simple exercises is always good at training the hand eye coordination not matter what the skill of the artist. The kids ranging in age from 7 -12. Nature has been our main source for inspiration. Here are some samples of observation pages. Not only are they sketching but also adding some notes about their subject. Date, Location, size of drawing compared to original specimen, smells, sounds are sorts of notations that will help trigger the moment in time they recorded their finds.

Contours,Donuts and Diet Coke to get the Day Started

Contours,Donut and Diet Coke by Susan Walker all rights reserved

Few contour line drawing, My brain is off to a slow starting Monday and I find doing contours a way of starting things moving in a creative yet "No Brainer" way. Not concerned about the final out come of the sketch just rolling my eye and hand along the outside..la la la. There-a drawing. And another and my brain is happier. (the diet coke and donut didn't hurt either. Other than sticking to my thighs...)

How do you do things going on a slow start day?
