Getting through the unpredictable and back to the drawing board.

Well i am home from my month + stay at the hospital with my son a week tomorrow. Wat can I say,it's been an adjustment. I haven't cooked in 37 days! NOT missin' that...but Thursday night my husband had a funeral to go to.So right away I was off  making a meal, homework and bedtime for all four kids on my own. Tom worked Saturday and came home feeling sick. WELL, it was the flu or some nasty thing he felt  he had to share with me. i felt it coming on Monday night before bed.It hit me full blast through the night and I don't know where Tuesday went. we both got up and took every ounce of energy we BOTH had to get the kids up and ready and out to school and Zach I took to his occupational therapy.
SOO ths brings me to today with some  meds on board and a guess a days worth of sleep I am participating in life again today. I enjoyed a wondereful weekend of listing to a webinar and couldn'twait to get in to my studio. Here is what I found....

Yikes! My turn when a model did not appear for open studio. The time went fast than I thought it might. I found the sounds of the ticking timer, scratching charcoal, dippen of brushes pleasant from the other side of the drawing board.

I heard from my sponsor request yesterday. I need two to apply to the Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators. With the application finished up and off in the mail, I just wait to hear when membership review will happen. In the mean time I will continue to work on newpen and ink pieces and put a new and fresh portfolio together. Wow , after all these years I am still nervous to hear from peers.Here is my piece from Open sudio yesterday.

Facing a new year

,

First open studio class on its way and I was there! One of my resolutions is to get to this class each week. I was so ready to stay home this a.m. and work on a piece I started last night but I talked to myself about a commitment. making it and sticking with it. I find when I get out of the routine it is easier to get out of the routine....

So today amongst the artist there, we wondered what goes on in the mind that causes intimidation in drawing/painting portraits as to a still life of veggies. Other than you want it to look like the person or even better look like the person yet better and flattering. Is that it right there? Need there be much more? i know when I sit there I say to my self"it should be no different than a pepper". Well at last I am working at it and drawing something.

This one is a bit off. I forgot my pencils and used a regular number 2 and had a White stick eraser. The left eye angle I couldn't really see the angle of it to replicate on paper. I knew it wasn't doin this and that but what was it doin...The shading to now looking is a bit heavy handed. i did't come home and work any more. when the timer went off I closed my sketchbook and here it is. And oh- she wa NOT this grumpy looking!
