Kids keeping busy with a sketch book on vacation

I bought 2 packs of moleskin Craft brown covered sketching books for the kids. These too fit in my bag I carried around on vacation with my sketchbook. I was delighted by the hit they were.

I pulled them out at a restaurant when we had a wait. I told them I got them to draw or write about our trip.Well to my amazement they jumped right in and got to drawing and recording the events and sights so far with the crayons from the restaurant. I later picked up crayola twist pencils (regular crayons would melt in the heat) to for my daughters finer desire for color assortment...I know shes only 7 but I can relate to this to well!

Sending some of souvinirs back home

Been in Harbor Town, Hilton Head SC for about a week. I wanted to send some of our vacation home to Nana and BaBa. Making envelopes out of the kids menus from the Crazy Crab I tucked in their post card, pine needles as they are everywhere on the ground and used as 'mulch' here, but i don't notice the tree, sphagnum moss,shells and little alligators-fake of course ('cuz they are in the lagoon behind our town house). Sealed them with packing tape- OOOPS,not sure how easy it will be to open...I just didn't want them to tear open and loose the goodies.

Then NaNa loves dolphins and BaBa penguins and I found each one of them. I hope they enjoy their surprises.

PS_ good news they got them in two days and no trouble getting them open!

finding some balance

Vacation was great- when we got to the beach and began to relax. I found Disney to be exhausting. Felt this pressure to see so as much as you can. yet we knew we had to take breaks. 4 days was not enough to fit it all in. But I have to say we fit a LOT in. I too managed to try to draw.This was new for me. It has been a goal for me this year to sketch everyday. At the least every week. To attempt this on a family vacation as such I wasn't sure I could do it.

One of my main challenges when we were away was that I would start something.( and it was a little something. a leaf, a chair) and then we had to get on a bus or the kids wanted to go to the other pool or just had to stop or move for one reason or another.or just to go be with the kids and enjoy.

I would come back to unfinished work or just a few lines. I had to keep telling myself " at least you have a pen moving! One step at a time." so I didn't complete much. I do have hopes of finishing of some with my photos as reference. I will let you know!

So back at home I again am trying to find a balance between my desire to sketch, draw ,coming up with promotional pieces and being a mom, wife, house keeper and cook. And as good as I can be at all.
