This is in my hand journal. Pitt artist pen and watercolors. The paper isn't great for watercolors but i kept it light.

Bumpy Bus Ride for an Owl

I don't recall the school bus being so bumpy. :/ last field trip with my fourth grade triplets. No electronics on the bus..well for the kids...but I took "Hand Book" sketchbook and Pitt artist pen. I figured out quickly to let the bumping help me create the texture.

Base Ball Tournaments and Sketching Time on a Summer Day

Ball point pen on 140# Exact Index Paper

Colton entered into day two of the local baseball tournaments. Held on the community fields in Slippery rock. Though HOT, I sketched and watched his team lose one, win one, lose one. These subjects too cheered them on.

Continue to Draw in Ink -An Easy Exercises for Your Sketch Time

So I have a moment at the hand therapy office to sketch but my brain is in neutral. What do I do? Not in the mood to sketch the few people again the same way I usually do. What do you do? OH yeah- blind contour line drawing-An easy exercise, fun and unique results. Feet of my son Jacob in his flips was also a nice change in subject that I usually find at this office.
Contour line drawing is where you place your pen on the page, look at the subject-KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE SUBJECT- and draw NOT LIFTING your pen.

Though light here in this image, My journal page was a wash of watercolor. I do these pages ahead. then when I come to it I just work on it. I usually don't skip them. I find it adds a new element and challenge  to that sketch page that I enjoy.

Fun with Travel Journal Workshop

Summer workshops are now posted. I'm so excited to be sharing how they can use the fun of drawing and sketching to record travels and summer days in a journal. Using snippets of  brochures and fun finds to add to the pages. Gathering my samples and supplies has given me another excuse to shop in art stores-not that I needed one. Go to my Workshop and Classes page to sign up.
A few samples from my pages. Stop by Susan Walker Art Sketchbook Pages if you would like to see my or what I am up to these days.

Here is a page I used gel pens for the background, laid over the tickets and sketched 'Carrot Top'

A few sketchbook pages

I haven't posted any sketchbook pages in some time. I really got away from the ability to to put pen to the page since the death of my mum in December. I have faithfully carried it from place to place as I always had but just didn't have the motivation or energy to do anything out and about as I once spent my time. I am not sure actually what replaced it. I guess just sitting, waiting like the other folks around.
Lately I have been paging through it and was really astonished how much time as passed since I worked on anything. As I looked I was reminded of what pleasure I found in the activity and needed to put it back into my time.

So here the baby steps I have taken...

I can see here the awkward lines at these first attempts back during my sons baseball game.

Simple sketch and a bit of recording.
Color trials for the thisel color in the upper corner of this sketch I worked on in between baiting some more hooks.
Sunday sermon sketch.

Drawing on a road trip endsa little Fishy

The tempeture had begun to drop and the rain sending the leaves down.I couldn't resist the fall folagaige all around as we took a road trip on Saturday. I worked on this small watercolor as we went. This is a combination of views. As we came to bends in the road I would study the values of the assvault, then the way the median looked as I waited for a repeat in type I was working on. The tree refrence was endless of corse.

After our designate deststination we took a side trip to Cabela's upon getting to the entrance we watched a chinsaw carver. How cool was that  for a start!

My husband and oldest son reaped the rewards of the merchandise there but the entire family enjoyed the displays of animals and fish tanks. They are all there in for the purpose of educating the public about conservation.

We spent a lot of time watching the fish in the room size fish aquariums. I was able to 'catch with a few with my line'. Close by, the kids working on their recordings and photos. Again working in my moleskin with the XF Pitt Artist Penn.

                          Photos Taylor took

Following night during a soccer practice I added in some light washes of color.

Class started"Multiples Streams of income"

Hi to my surprise yesterday was the 7th...I guess I was in quite the vacation weekend mode. To my delight ,in my emails at the end of the day, I got my first assignment from Laura Bray.I singed up for her course called "Multiple Streams of Income" built around her ebook of the same title.
Brain storming ideas was not to hard though the goal is to have 50 new ideas. What struck me was when I got to where I had to narrow down my ideas to 3 I would really like to pursue it got a little interesting. I like a lot of my ideas but to think about waking up everyday to really working on these 3, I found some ideas I thought I would like actually left me feeling ,anxious and uneasy. At first I thought this was just "Oh you don't really want to get to work".When found one I learned I liked and I pictured myself doing this and that one- I had a entirely different feel. My body felt better,my mind could picture me doing this and being excited about sharing it with others. It was pretty cool. So last night I got to know my "gut" a little better and will remember this exercises before I say 'Yes" to projects. Also I found that some ideas are the ones we think we should be doing or others think we should.. Laura mentioned Teaching- turned out it wasn't for her. Where I thought I wanted to do that. With rethought ,the time commitment, baby sitting needed to 'go teach' etc. I don't think I really do want to go that way. Though it would be easy in another sense for me.'Presenting" my method though dose appeal to me. So on to my working on Multiple Streams of Income for my sketchbook journals!
